As Brent jumped above $100, a thread on X and a set of Telegram channels claimed Nigeria had signed a quiet swap with Iran — Iranian condensate in, Nigerian grades out — to dodge Hormuz risk and keep Dangote and the depots wet.

No document has been produced. The Ministry of Petroleum Resources has not announced a swap. NNPC Limited has not. Iranian state media, which would normally boast of any such arrangement, has been silent on Nigeria.

It is not impossible that traders are exploring optionality. That is their job. A sovereign swap is a different claim, and it requires a signature. Until one appears, this is a rumour timed for a frightened market.

Aso Rock News has asked the ministry and NNPC for comment. If a deal exists, we will report it. If it does not, we will say so.
