National Assembly shifts plenary resumption to 29 September
The clerk told lawmakers they will now return two weeks later than scheduled, compressing the autumn calendar as parties begin to campaign in earnest.

The National Assembly will resume plenary on 29 September, not 15 September as previously advertised, the clerk to the National Assembly, Kamoru Ogunlana, told lawmakers at the weekend.
The delay is being explained, depending on who you ask, as a matter of committee work still outstanding, or as a quiet acknowledgement that too many members are already on the campaign trail. Either way, it shortens the sitting window before the political year tilts fully toward 2027.
Bills on security funding, electoral amendments and the remaining appropriation clean-ups were supposed to dominate the return. A later start means fewer sitting days and more pressure to pass packages in bulk — the sort of haste that produces sloppy drafting and late-night clauses.
Leadership in both chambers insisted the work of committees has continued. Opposition members said the calendar is being bent around the ruling party’s convenience. The public, as usual, will notice only if the lights stay off or the petrol queue returns.
