Augustine “Cerezo” Eguavoen has been appointed interim head coach of the Super Falcons, the NFF confirmed, with a first assignment that is both modest and unforgiving: navigate a two-legged Olympic qualifier against Comoros in October.

Both legs will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne-Remo on 9 and 13 October. Comoros arrived by putting 30 goals past Sudan on aggregate. That scoreline is a warning about the gap in the rest of the draw, not a reason for Nigeria to relax. The Falcons are ten-time African champions. Anything short of a professional win will be treated as a crisis.

Eguavoen is joined by Nasarawa Amazons coach Christopher Danjuma, former Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf, and goalkeeping coach Olatunji Baruwa. The permanent job remains open. This is an audition with a result attached.

Should Nigeria beat Comoros, a third-round tie against Morocco or the Democratic Republic of Congo waits in early 2027. Los Angeles 2028 is still four knock-out rounds away. The Falcons have been here before. They know the road. They now need a coach who will walk it without noise.
